BU Sudan Teach-In
In collaboration with Boston Universities Students of Color for Public Health, WNYA led an informative and engaging discussion on the war in Sudan, and the history that predates the conflict.
Night Out for Sudan Charity Dinner
WNYA and Northeastern Universities Black Islamic Association held an incredibly successful charity dinner to fundraise for charity HRRDS! We raised 9 times our intial goal for a total of 2140 dollars!
Sports for Humanity x WNYA Collab
WNYA and Sports for Humanity teamed up for an afternoon of basketball and painting, attendees learned about the ongoing crisis in Sudan, played basketball (one attendee winning a basketball in the charity raffle), painted and sipped on ice cold karkade!
Sip n Paint x City of Boston
WNYA hosted a fun and relaxing sip n paint in Boston Commons, where we ate sudanese sweets, drank chai and met new members of the Boston Sudanese and South Sudanese community.

President -- Noha
Noha is a recent graduate of Tufts University, where she majored in Biochemistry and Biopsychology. She was born and raised in Saudi Arabia , moved to the DMV area and then headed to Boston for college. She is dedicated to supporting the Sudanese community, serving as an extension of their voice in Boston to raise awareness and help those affected by the war.
Vice President -- Bedphiny
Bedphiny is from Massachusetts, where she graduated from UMass Amherst with a degree in Biology, following the pre-med track. She is deeply connected to her identity as a Shilluk and takes pride in her heritage from the youngest nation in the world. Bedphiny is a dedicated individual whose work reflects a passionate commmitment to bridging the gap between the Sudanese and South Sudanese community.
Secretary -- Lena
Lena recently graduated from Tufts University and is currently pursuing a Master of Public Health at Tufts University School of Medicine. Lena is enthusiastic about bringing together Sudanese and South Sudanese voices in the greater Boston area, as well as celebrating their rich and vibrant cultures!
Treasurer -- Mohammed Yassen
Mohammed Yassen (Yassen) is a Mechanical Engineering student at MIT. As the treasurer of the WNYA, Yassen hopes to deepen his ties with the Sudanese communityin Boston while empowering them simultaneously.
Voting Board Member -- Fatima
Fatima is currently studying political science at Tufts University but grew up in Denver, CO. She loves traveling and going for long drives. Fatima is excited to be part of the team and enjoys meeting new people, learning new things and sharing Sudani culture.
Graphics Designer -- Mohamed
Mohmed who was studying Engineering at UofK, moved to America in the summer of 2023. He is currently attending community college. Moving to the United States has sparked his eagerness to participate in such intiatives.
Grant Writing Director -- Maaza
Maaza holds a BA in Political Science with a focus on the African diaspora. She is deeply committed to initiatives that uplift and empower the Sudanese diaspora, particularly underserved communities, working to bridge divides and foster unity. Maaza is also a multidisciplinary artist. She envisions returning to her ancestral towns one day and dedicating her life to creating art that captures the essence of her heritage
Fundraising and Technology Director -- Ala'a
Ala'a currently attends Northeastern University, studying Data Science and International Relations. Ala'a is passionate about advocating for disenfranchised communities, with a special tie to the struggle of the Sudanese people. Ala'a's parents are originally from Khartoum and Dongola, Sudan. Ala'a is dedicated to the pursual of peace for the Sudanese people.
Public Relations Chair -- Mohamed Abdelgaleel
Mohamed has actively contributed to Sudanese society by coordinating community projects, securing funding for education initiatives, and fostering professional networks, demonstrating a strong commitment to empowering and supporting his community both locally and abroad.Our Mission Statement
Our mission is to build a unified and inclusive community for Sudanese and South Sudanese youth, both within the diaspora and beyond. We aim to celebrate and preserve our rich cultures, while educating ourselves and others about the complex histories that have shaped our nations. Through political education, social justice initiatives, and advocacy, we seek to heal from past wounds and foster reconciliation between our communities. By embracing our differences and recognizing our shared struggles, we will work together to empower our people and amplify silenced voices. In solidarity with local and global movements, we commit to raising awareness, advocating for justice, and creating spaces for meaningful dialogue and collaboration that uplift all marginalized communities.
